So, the 2009 season FINALLY begins!!!
Here are your 2009 Bullfrogs:

 1  Tom Earing
 2  AC Earing
 3  Jared Davis
 7  Justin Smith
 8  Jeff Quesnell
09 AJ Arango
10 Dan Smith
11 Cullen Wilson
12 Anthony Nelson
15 Andy Weliver
21 JD Campbell
22 Jeremy Moss
31 Dave Hawkins
33 Nick Brown
36 Rob Allen

A few returning faces: AC, Jeff, Cullen, and Jeremy, with a possible late-season arrival of Tom.

This season, we started with a rough start against the Yankees, having only a roster of 7 players... but then began a bare-bottom spanking of the Clovers (yes, JD's former team) before the Mother Nature stepped in and let them slip away.

This year's team may prove to be a more mature, balanced and stronger team than the 2008 roster, and the first REAL game of the season (in this writer's opinion) will be this weekend when the Bullfrogs play a split (9am/4pm) double header!

Bullfrogs Fall Flat
Some imposter team showed up in orange uniforms this weekend!

The made the Clovers look like a high-powered hitting team... well, two homers with bases loaded will do that!  Too bad the bases were loaded with BBs, HBPs, and ROEs!

Not to mention, the Clovers got away with SO many extra bases due to errors...

But it wasn't a fluke because the same imposter team in orange allowed 12 runs in the first inning against the Bandits!

"Its like that team in black isn't even trying; they keep walking to first base!"  one onlooker reported.

Bullfrogs Manager, AC Earing had this to say after the game: "er, eh, theeba, theeba, gurgle, duh..."  which this reporter interprets as such: we have to start getting hits, not swinging at junk pitches, make less errors by stopping the ball with our bodies if not with our gloves, and not leave so many base-runners on!

Stay tuned for what happens with the guys in orange and green!  Next week: Pueblo!
Bullfrogs put honus on pitching staffUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Too many pitches, not enough PUT OUTS!!!
Justin Smith has been a force on the mound... the big unit lefty has picked the team up with incredible strike-outs... but there is simply TOO MUCH pressure on the young strong pitcher to do all the work!  Defensively, the Bullfrogs have overcome major deficits to come back and take the lead on a number of occasions, but key errors have led to undefendable walks, and too many times, a blown lead.  Justin threw 121 pitches in just 5 1/3 innings, fanning 13 Clovers, but walking (or hitting) 11 of them.

Some offensive highlights of the game include: EVERY batting Bullfrog got at least ONE hit, as well, Rob Allen got 3 RBIs on the day, hitting 2 for 4.  Not to be unmentioned, Anthony "The Pickle" Nelson earned a stolen base the HARD way in a series of at least 7 throws (Clovers trying to pick him off) that resulted in a beautiful head-first slide into third base!

Troublesome news in the Bullfrogs front office, the Bullfrogs will be without spry and agile JD Campbell for the next 3 games as he faces a suspension.  Bullfrogs manager AC Earing had this to say, "...our team is more about getting to play the sport of baseball than it is about psychological trash-talking or outrageous outbursts."  "We are here with our families, and out to match skills and luck with other teams as they spend their Sundays with their families."  "I hope this is the end of unneccessary distractions... GO BULLFROGS!"

Next week, the REAL split double-header with a 9am game and a 4pm game.

split double headers SUCK!!!
Bullfrogs this week are represented by Nick Brown.  Nick was hit by two pitches, and got a split eyebrow off of a screaming line drive at third base.  Who knows how many stitches, and what flavor of anesthetic, but Nick put a huge amount of effort into the game this weekend, but still left bloody.  Just like the Bullfrogs.

Though the first game ended in a tie, I know I know how does a baseball game end in a tie, but take away ONE inning of 3 unearned runs (by the Charros) on three key errors, and the Bullfrogs outpitched, outplayed, outhit the Charros... two items of particular note, AJ Arango hit his first homer EVER, and it was a solo shot over left-center field.  As well, Andy Weliver delivered on a two-run shot over right-center field, gaining 4 RBIs in that game.  Another groovy hit was by Dan Smith who put a crazy hooking spin on a line drive down third base line (remember, he's a lefty) to bring the Bullfrogs back into their deserved winning position.

Pitching-wise, though AC gave up a pretty large number of hits, the Bullfrogs kept the  Charros to 15 stranded runners on the day.  This writer chalks it up to "cool under pressure" composure!

Next week: bye week, aka Memorial Day Weekend: no games.  May 31st, the Bullfrogs host the Hondos at El Pomar... then, June 7th, the good-guys host the Bombers in Pueblo at Central HS... this writer has a special place in his heart for disdain for the Bombers, and hopes that the Bullfrogs can get back to back wins!

Go Bullfrogs!
aren't ALL losses tough?!Use SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
And the trash was a flyin!
Not to perpetuate the trash-talk, but the NUMBER ONE team faced the last placed team, and the score margin wasn't that great... nor were the hits... nor were the excessive number of errors committed... BY the NUMBER ONE team!  Maybe number two would be a better title.

Actually, what a great day for baseball!  Passionate and aggressive play ALL DAY in Pueblo with many MANY close calls on the field from first base all the way around to the plays at the plate!

In the end, small ball won it for the Bombers.  bloop and bash with a lot of walking.  6 of their 16 runs were earned by the Bombers, 3 of the Bullfrogs' 5 were earned.

The scoreboard didn't reflect the close match-up of the day, but that has been the story for the men in orange and green this season.

Expect, with the improvement of their bats and meshing as a team, the Bullfrogs to turn a corner and start accumulating some wins!

not Pueblo AGAIN!!!
So two NON-Pueblo teams faced off in Pueblo again this week! The Sox traveling from Canon City and the Bullfrogs clashed as the first game opened up with a splendid display of hitting by the Bullfrogs. AC Earing, having never hit an out of the park home-run in a game, cranked a shot over right field earning not only his first homer, but also his first grand slam! Later in the inning, he was wiped out while making a tag on a ghost... because the field umpire couldn't conceive how a baserunner could run into a fielder's glove and actually be out WHILE the fielder is in the air, momentum quickly changed direction the wrong way! A smart decision to bring in the ACE who shut down the Bandit hitting machine, along with some seeing-eye dog calls by the officiating crew, and Earing's salami quickly diminished into thin air! Just like the ghost he tagged instead of the Sox' baserunner, I guess. But wait, there's more! The second game was full of action too. Did you know that umpires can make line-up changes? They can't, but they can sure complain to ONE team about getting hit by foul balls or wild pitches... even though they get hit by BOTH teams' pitchers. Crikey! Maybe it was the heat, maybe the orange of the Bullfrogs' uniforms bothered their eyes, but a LOT of calls sure seemed to go the way of the Sox in BOTH games. But, winning and losing doesn't come down to officiating... unless the New England Patriots or Detroit Red Wings are involved, but those are other sports... a few bad calls, a few missed calls, MAYBE they impact the score a little bit or maybe they impact momentum. BUT, when it comes down to it, the game over-all and the mental toughness to work past bad calls both belong to the team! The Bullfrogs, who started the season with only 3 returning players from last year, have grown into an amalgamation of personality and perseverance. While some teams are swapping players or trying to "sell tickets" with their awesomeness, the Bullfrogs exemplify recreation baseball in southern Colorado. They are a team that works together and gets along. They are a family who shows up week in and week out with a whole generation of future Bullfrogs in tow. They are group of individuals who are improving every day and with every opportunity. They are a team of guys aged 19 to 46 in a league where the top rated teams are comprised mostly of guys who should be playing in college (or recently did) or a few even in AAA pro-ball. This season has been a tough one so far, but there are some wins on the horizon for men in orange and green. Next week, the Bullfrogs are hosted by the Pueblo Demons for their FIRST game in Pueblo involving a Pueblo team. The Demons, recently sans a few big-name players who are adding to the "awesomeness" of the widely beloved Bombers, beat up on the Bullfrogs earlier in the season including spilling blood at the hot corner. But, this time, the Bullfrogs have more than 7 players, are hitting well, and have the savvy of a contention-worthy ball club! So, it should make for an EXCITING match up! Go Bullfrogs!

Second Win of the Season
Let's see here: Dan went 2/3 with a double Justin went 5/5 with 2 doubles AND Travis threw 50-60 pitches in 4 innings, and surrendered only TWO walks and 5 hits! Not to mention, his first win and the team's second. Across the league, statistically, Justin is also commanding respect on the mound with 71 strike-outs, second only behind the Brewers' Nick McCann! The Bullfrogs get their second win against a skeleton crew of the Pueblo Demons who recently lost some key players who were assimilated by another team. The Pueblo Demons were reduced to 8 players for the start of the game against the Bullfrogs. Ironically enough, the same was the case for the Bullfrogs' loss to the Demons earlier in the season, except that the Bullfrogs had only 7 Bullfrogs and one Yankee... If memory serves, there was another team on a nearby field with 13+ players, but couldn't spare any of their pillaged, borrowed, taken, players to contribute to the competitive graces of the league... In that game, the Bullfrogs were beat pretty badly. As in this last week's game, the Bullfrogs delivered a good walloping! The names of some of the teams in this league are pretty classic. A couple others are creative, but one team in particular could be a little more creative, and this writer thinks that next season, they should be called 'The Borg!!' "resistance is futile... you will be assimilated!" There is no game for the Fourth of July weekend, and the good guys will get to spend the rest of their season playing in Colorado Springs! The remaining games (at El Pomar) are: July 12: Yankees AT Bullfrogs 4pm July 19: Bandits AT Bullfrogs 12:30 Bullfrogs AT Bandits 4pm July 26: Hondos AT Bullfrogs 12:30 Go Bullfrogs!

Justin Smith throws 243 pitches!
What are the Bullfrogs thinking?  Their ACE throws a complete game AND closed another?  Clearly, they are putting too much pressure and are relying too much on the mighty left arm of Smith!  When asked for comment after the game, manager AC Earing had this to say, "Our Bullpen is underdeveloped and with our defense making key errors, our starting rotation is overburdened!"  He later when on to say that he'd re-enter the rotation and work more of the bullpen sooner than he has, attributing most of the losses to an overworked pitching staff.

However, one highlight of the Bandits double-header is one well-improved Nick Brown!  His numbers pre split-face and his number after would lead young players to believe that once you've taken one off the dome, your play improves and so does your hitting!  Brown's .258 avg doesn't reflect his recent performance at the plate... if he keeps this up, he'll be into the double-digits by the end of the season!

Another Smith of note is Dan Smith, he hit two doubles and racked up a pair of RBIs in the effort.

The Bullfrogs technically finish the season against the Hondos, who are traditionally plagued by shenanigans.  If the Bullfrogs stay cool and composed, especially with the high caliber of their bats of late, then they should come away with a win!  Also, TECHNICALLY, the Bullfrogs have a make-up game against the Yankees, but we'll see about how the schedule plays out.  One thing is certain, expect a good showing in the playoffs from the Bullfrogs!

End of the regular season...
Hello Bullfrog Fans!  (and secret wannabe Bullfrogs from other teams)

First things first... This week was a great week for the development of the Bullfrogs!  Noe Mendoza came through in a CLUTCH situation, with the game on the line, he ripped a double scoring tow runners and allowing the Bullfrogs to come from behind and WIN over the obviously season-worn Hondos.  Not to mention, Justin Smith got to hit a homer OUT OF THE PARK, as did Nick Brown whose hitting matriculated today with his solo homerun shot in the second inning!

Now, the season in quick review.

Justin Smith pitched 58 of the Bullfrogs' 130 innings... 44.6% of the innings pitched.  As well, the Bullfrogs' pitching staff struck out 141 other team batters, where as the hitters of the Bullfrogs only K'd 128 times... that is a strike-out differential of .476 and anything under .500 is GOOD!

The Bullfrogs were 182 of 525 (team BA .347) with 42 of those hits going for extra bases (241 total bags) making our team slugging % .459!  Half of the Bullfrogs hit for over .300 and EVERYBODY with 30+ plate appearances hit over .200!

Looking back on the season, a few little tweaks could have made the difference in the Bullfrogs' record, but a manager can be proud of the over-all team improvement that occurred!  Not only did many individual players improve defensively and offensively, but the team as a whole came together to create a solid team dynamic!  In this league, there is a lot of trading, and team jumping, and lack of loyalty, and only a few teams can claim having a dynamic like that of the Bullfrogs!  That is something to be proud of and its something to buid upon!

Now, off to the play-offs...

Go Bullfrogs!!!

Bullfrogs win round one!
JD Campbell got the start, but didn't complete 5 innings, so by Major League rules, he gets no decision.  Coming into the game with a pretty decent lead, Justin Smith gets the win!  Its his first win with the Bullfrogs and its about time considering his great pitching all season without a "W" on the books!

Pitching:

Campbell:  60 pitches thrown in 4 innings.
                 7 BB, 0 K, 4 R, 2 Earned, 4.5 ERA

Smith, J:   86 pitches thrown in 5 innings.
                2 BB, 9 K, 5 R, 2 Earned, 3.6 ERA

Hitting:

Arango: 2/5, R, K

Smith, D: 2/4, 2B, R, K, BB, SB, RBI

Smith, J: 2/4, 2R, HBP, SB, RBI

Earing: 0/2, 2BB

Weliver: 3/4, 3B, R, SB, RBI

Allen: 1/3, FC, R, 2K, RBI

Brown: 0/3, R, K, BB

Lindner: 0/3, R, K, BB, SB

Wilson: 2/4, 2B, R, K, 2RBI

Mendoza: 2/4, 2B, 2R, RBI

Campbell: 2/3, 2R, BB, SB, 2RBI

"This is the most somber victory ever!" said Campbell after the game.  Maybe because the Bullfrogs usually play much more dramatically... maybe because they established a lead early and maintained... maybe because it was hotter than hades in Pueblo.  To play a game in the lead in this league and maintain poise takes a LOT of concentration!  Maybe the Bullfrogs were worn out physically AND mentally.  Who knows, but what we know is that the Bullfrogs won a big game!

The Bullfrogs will face the Charros, who lost to the Demons by a margin of one, on Sunday in Pueblo.  The Charros will be looking for redemption, where as the Bullfrogs will be riding the orange momentum train.  It should be a good game considering in the regular season, the Charros and the Bullfrogs split.

Sunday Aug 9th: Bullfrogs AT Charros, Pueblo, 12:30 game time.

Are the Bullfrogs ready?
So, are the Bullfrogs ready for 2010?

This year, the league is full... 14 teams!  The first year, there were nearly only half that many.  The first year, the Bullfrogs opened with only 8 players and eventually only a small handful of wins.  This year, though they lost game uno, the team has a full roster!

Jacob Hollmann started and controlled the pace of the game pretty well on his side of the diamond, giving up a windy floating homer for the only HIT earned run against the Bullfrogs.  Dan Smith in center-field made two uncharacteristic errors that resulted in two unearned runs, and then the Bullfrogs bullpen struggled walking 6 in a row in the 7th inning!  Justin Smith entered the game and closed it by fanning one, walking two, and allowing none to score.

The pitching match-up of the game was fairly evenly matched until Bullfrogs manager made a premature decision to pull the low-pitch-count Hollmann.  After the game, the Bullfrogs manager had this to say:

"I love a close game, and we got on base, but we didn't capitalize like we could've or should've!  Plus, I gotta get my pitchers in there and game-tested!  Unfortunately, it cost us a few runs to do that; take out a couple key errors (including the pitching change) and it's a win for us. I'm optimistic about this team and this season!"

The game was 3-2 when Jacob came out, considering his pitch count was only 74 through 6 innings, maybe he should've stayed in?!  The Bullfrogs didn't get on the board again, but allowed 3 runs to come in on walks.

The Bullfrogs' hitting was below par, but that may have been the result of pretty good Braves pitching!

This Sunday, the good guys in orange host the other guys in orange, the Hondos!

...so, are the Bullfrogs ready for 2010?

...you bet, they are!

Win #1

The Bullfrogs faced a tough Hondos team today.  The scoreboard reflected a familiar (to the Bullfrogs) circumstance; There were a lot of walks, and a few errors.  The difference is that the Bullfrogs were on the winning side of the familiar circumstance!

Jacob Hollmann started on the mound and threw a whopping 109 pitches in 5 innings giving up 3 earned runs for the win.  Defensively, the Bullfrogs weren't without blemishes; An error at first, an error in center, an error at short, and a throwing error from the plate led to 5 unearned runs.  Otherwise, the Bullfrogs made some great plays, and played solid baseball.

This week's nominee for offensive player of the week, AND defensive player... Justin Smith!  Justin earned 6 RBIs, going 2 for 2 with a GRAND SLAM and a single, with 3 walks (one intentional).  He also scored twice!  Defensively, he pitched 5 innings, coming in when the Bullfrogs were only up by one run, so he earned the SAVE.  He struck out 9 Hondos this week, and has established himself as a solid closer holding a remarkable 0.00 era in 8 innings pitched!

A few close calls, some heightened emotions, but over-all a great afternoon of Baseball!

Next week, the Bullfrogs visit the Rockhouds!

Baseball is Pure!
Bullfrogs management allowed too many pitches to be thrown by their starting pitcher.  After 6 innings, Justin Smith was up to 93 pitches and had a 5-1 lead... why did he pitch another inning?  THAT was the first mistake of many in the 7th inning to allow the Sharks to come into the game!  A tumultuous 7th inning included 3 runs to come in on walks, and 3 batters to reach on errors... not a good follow-up to Smith's starting the inning with two K's!  "It's hard to pull a pitcher who starts an inning with two strike-outs!" AC Earing had to say.

Jacob Hollmann came in to stop the hemorrhaging, but the Bullfrogs offense left early in the game and presumably was in the showers when it was needed most!

Highlights on the day include Dave Hawkins going 2-3, Justin Smith ripping a 2-RBI triple, John Bates smacking a lazer of a double earning an RBI, and 14 combined strike-outs earned by the Bullfrogs pitching staff!

There are no games scheduled for Mother's Day weekend, but the week after, the Bullfrogs have a double-header against the Rockhounds the week after.

"Baseball is pure!" Earing stated after the game.  "...you can't hide from mistakes because they are usually connected to the baseball, which there is only one, and all eyes are usually on it!  We just gotta learn from 'em and not repeat 'em!"  The Bullfrogs have a couple weeks to get back on track and to work their way up the rankings, which they have the making to do!

Bullfrogs ease into .500

with a sweep over the Rockhounds
24 runs to 4...

When the Bullfrogs win, they win BIG!  The WINNING score margin is a whopping 39-11... the losing score margin is a measly 8-14... with an overall score margin of 47-25!!!  Realistically, the Bullfrogs are playing great baseball and are a much better team than a mere .500!

The last time the Bullfrogs faced the Rockhounds, Hollmann gave up a 3-run homer in the 1st inning, and the Bullfrogs trailed the rest of the game to finish with only 2 runs and the loss.  "dadgummit, we shut 'em down after the first!" Hollmann had stated... I guess he pitched with some passion this week for retribution!

Jacob Hollmann pitched 129 pitches in a complete game 1 against the Rockhounds this week fanning 13, walking 1, hitting one hitter, and only giving up 1 earned run on 4 hits!  Game 2, Justin Smith was on route to a complete game as well, going 5 innings, only throwing 58 pitches, fanning 7, walking 2, only giving up 3 hits.  "our slingers REALLY came through this week!  We've got 2 of the best 5 pitchers in the league IN OUR ROTATION!"  Bullfrogs manager had to say after the game.

Offensively, the Bullfrogs hit .235 in game one with an on base % of .439.  Game 2, they hit .357 with OB% of .718!!! The Bullfrogs had been in a slump for a few games, but this week, every Bullfrog on the roster either got a hit, or scored.

Next week, the Bullfrogs host the Sox IN PUEBLO at 9am!

EXTRA INNINGS, BABY!!!
So... is anybody getting sick of hearing about Jacob Hollmann, yet?  ME NEITHER!!!  Hollmann pitched ALL 10 innings, throwing 143 pitches, fanning 20 hitters!  He only gave up 1 earned run, and only walked 1 batter, giving up 7 hits.  And of course, he got the win.

But, the Bullfrogs defense was on point surrendering 1 unearned run and abandoned most of the Sox runners on base.

The Bullfrogs won in the 10th off of a DUE HIT from Travis Lindner that put the ball in play and then the Sox threw the ball around and allowed AJ Arango to score his second, the Bullfrogs' third, run in the game for the win.

The Bullfrogs sit at 4-3 on the season, which is their best summer standing ever!  Look forward to more wins!

Memorial Day weekend is off for the league...

See ya in a couple weeks!

Bullfrogs give to the cause of the Athletics...
...in fact, the Bullfrogs gave up 7 UNEARNED RUNS!!!  The A's put the ball in play AND REACHED ON ERROR 10 times... they also put the ball in play and reached legitimately 8 times in the game.  The number 1 pitcher in the league, Jacob Hollmann, in strike outs only got 3 against the A's and reached 114 pitches in only 6 innings.

That is the story of the Bullfrog's struggling defense.  Regarding the offensive struggles against the A's, the good-hitting Bullfrogs surrendered 14 strike-outs to a mediocre A's pitcher, only getting 5 hits against the A's.  Granted, the 5 hits lead to 4 runs, unfortunately, wins don't come from hits to runs ratios, it comes down to the number of guys crossing the plate!

Versus the Team USA, the Bullfrogs were a different team.  Lackadasically, the Bullfrogs trailed Team USA to the 6th inning, 2-3.  Then, in came a couple of RBI hits from Travis Lindner and Nick Brown to put Justin Smith in the WIN position.  Smith racked up 15 strike-outs in his 2nd win of the season, giving up only 3 hits, 3 runs (2 earned) in the complete game pitched.

The schedule for the next few weeks IS:

6/13:      Bullfrogs AT Sharks 9am El Pomar
              Bombers AT Bullfrogs 12:30 Harrison

6/20:      Bullfrogs AT Bandits  12:30 Harrison

# 1 team rattle Bullfrogs' winning record, but the Bullfrogs walk away unrattled!
Jacob Hollmann threw a lot of pitches against the Bandits who were very savvy at the plate and racked up 8 runs in 6 innings... the Bullfrogs only had 5... which they got early and front-ran for a little while.  Then AC Earing came in with his 0.00 era just to be fed to the sharks, giving up 7 runs in 2 innings. "I'm a pitch-to-contact pitcher... they just know how to make really good contact!"  Earing said after the game.  It didn't matter anyway because the Bullfrogs didn't post another run after the second inning.

Offensive highlights, Dan Smith sluggled 1.000 in the first game with 2 singles and 2 doubles, posting 3 RBIs.  There'll be more about Smith later.

Game 2, Justin Smith, despite an irritated ankle, threw a lot of pitches as well... 187 pitches to be exact!  He had a stellar pitching game fanning 17 Bandits and only gave up 3 earned runs.  Thumper, aka Grant Schneider, hit a homerun off of each of the Bullfrogs' pitchers, and with the velocity Justin put on one pitch, Thumper put one out deep into the Goodwill parking lot... I guess his 0 for 3 against Justin with two K's made him hungry for the long-ball.

Offensive highlights... before we get to Dan Smith again, 6 of the 9 Bullfrogs in the line-up got hits in game 2.  Now, Smith went 2 for 4 in game one, game two, he hit 3 for 4 with a HOMER and 3 more RBIs... his stats on the day were 5 for 8 with a walk, 3 runs, 6 RBIs, 2 doubles, and of course the dong!  Of course he was nominated for hitter of the week... but with Thumper on the other side hitting 3 homeruns in two games, may just sleight him for it.

Bullfrogs exact revenge on Athletics
Earlier in the season, the A's racked up a number of unearned runs to defeat the Bullfrogs.  Last weekend, the A's got ANOTHER unearned... and that's it!  In the first game, they put the ball in play a lot... this week, they struck out 14 times.

Justin Smith was the orchestrator in those 14 strike outs, only allowing 2 hits and walking a small handful.  The defense behind him did a good job, with centerfielder Tim Blecker covering ground all over the place with 4 put-outs in fly-balls alone!  Dan Smith was the game manager, and his record in this role moves to 2-0... not to mention, his over-all team contribution has him on pace to earning his way to a second consecutive appearance in the all-star game.

Next week, the Bullfrogs host the Goodies at 4pm.

Bullfrogs open up at the seams...

Where did our beloved boys in orange and green go?  They've lost to the Sharks TWICE and they've lost TWO in a row!

A highlight, one Mr. Dave Hawkins ripped TWO doubles against the Goodies... and not just doubles, but outfield fence-rattling doubles!  As well, one Mr. Justin Smith hit ANOTHER homerun vs. the Goodies!

Hopefully the rest of the Bullfrogs will follow Smith and Hawkins into a winning form... Hopefully the philosophy of BULLFROG will return... Hopefully our boys will get back into their groove!

Next week a double header vs. the Goodies and the Charros...

A long day for the Bullfrogs
The Bullfrogs are back in Bullfrog form!  Let's start with Jacob Hollmann.  Jacob went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs, a stolen base, and crossed the plate 3 times... that was just offensively!  He also struck out 5 Goodies and gave up only 1 run, with 2 walks and 3 hits in his 88 pitches thrown.  Justin Smith also had a great day, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs, and contributing a run to the 13 - 1 mercy-rule-decided game.

"Too bad we didn't win last week against the Goodies..." Bullfrogs manager AC Earing had to say after the game, "...we outscored them 16 - 7! I wish we could've faced the Bombers in the morning because Dan played clutch in loan to the Brewers, and Justin hit 3 doubles!"  The Bullfrogs were able to make up their game vs. the Sharks which is the team that represents the low of the season for the Bullfrogs who gave them 2 wins on less than 4 earned runs.  Hopefully the boys in green and orange are on the way up this week, and going into the post-season!

The Bullfrogs have a HUGE double-header THIS week... hosting the Brewers in the morning, and they visit the Bandits in the evening in their SPLIT doubleheader.

PLAY-OFFS?

PLAY-OFFS?!!!

So, the Bullfrogs get the top seed in the lower bracket... the website was in error and placed the Rockhounds higher, but hey, glitches occur!

Play-offs begin THIS WEEKEND!!!  The Bullfrogs host the Hondos at 12:30pm in Pueblo at Central HS field.

The Rockhounds, those who woke up early enough today to notice the GLITCH were probably all excited to see themselves placed higher than the boys in green and orange, BUT in the head-to-head match up between the Rockhounds and the Bullfrogs, the good guys not only beat them 2-1 in games, but also in run differential 25-7!!!  So, the glitch has been fixed and the Bullfrogs get the #1 seed.

On the season, we have some highlights...

Justin Smith threw 65 innings and accumulated 106 Ks on the season.  Jacob Hollman threw 76 innings getting 92 batters to fan out.

Dan Smith hit .407 on the season with 15 singles, 6 doubles,  2 triples, and a homer!  Dan also hit in 19 runners... he led the Bullfrogs in EVERY offensive stat except for RBIs which Justin Smith earned 20 RBIs... Dan also crossed the plate 20 times.  Jim Bishop, who started off slowly, wound up with a .371 average in the lead-off spot and scored 16 times.

Over-all, the Bullfrogs played very well as a team, and with the exception of some lackadaisical games vs... oh, the SHARKS... and 43% of their total runs surrendered being unearned,.. then the Bullfrogs end up a much higher ranked team!  In fact, the Bullfrogs have beaten 3 of the top 6 ranked teams during the regular season.  Most of the top ranked teams can't even claim that accomplishment.  It's something to be proud of, and indicative of the potential this Bullfrog team has!

Go Bullfrogs!!!
