Errors Cost Wood Lanes The Chance For A Opening Day Victory |
The Camden Punishers defeated Wood Lanes 18-5. Wood Lanes came out strong and went 1,2, 3 on an 8 pictch opening inning. They took a quick 1-0 lead. But when the 4th inning came, that's when the errors did. The Punishers came on to score 18 runs (12 of which were unearned). But there was positives as well. WL had their share of hits but left too many men on base and stuck out a few too many times. WL had 11 hits. Including 3 each from Greg Kempf and Ed Barger. Jack McCouch knocked in a 2 out 2 run single as well. Tim Dreher threw the ball well striking out 8 in 5 innings. Jim Brannigan made his pitching debut as well. Going 2 innings in relief striking out 2 and giving up 3 earned runs. Wood Lanes looks to bounce back and pick up their first win of the season next week against the G.C. Giants. |

Big Step Up From Game 1, But Still No Win |
On a damp rainy day where the game almost didnt get off, Wood Lanes faced off against the G.C. Giants. Joe Branningan got the nod and pitched great. Through the first 6 innings it was a pitching dual. The game was back and fourth every time WL scored the Giants answered. After another two out hit by Jack McCouch in the 6th WL took their lead into the 7th. But that's when the Giants offense stepped up. They scored 4 runs on 4 hits with a walk and a costly error to go ahead 6-3. WL had their chances to get back including Ed Barger just missing a 3 run shot in the 8th that would've tied it. Joe Brannigan went 6 innings giving up only 3 runs,2 earned. Tim Dreher took the tough loss in relief giving up 3 runs, only 1 earned. Greg Kempf had a 2 hit game with RBI and a double. Jack McCouch had a 2 hit game as well. Wood Lanes travel to Moorestown for their first road game of the season next week to play the Phillies still in search for their first win of 2008. |

Wood Lanes Hang Tough But Loose: Fall 0-3 |
Wood Lanes played their first road game of the year against a very touch Phillies team on Sun. For the third straight game they were the first to strike on the scoreboard. But that didnt last long cause in the bottom of the 1st, the Phils scored 2 unearned runs on 3 WL errors. With only 5 hits in the game WL kept the game close with the score 4-1 in the 7th. But every time the Phillies they seemed to steal. swiping 9 bags on the day. Final score was 7-1. Ryan O'Donnell, Greg Kempf and Kevin Clark extended their hitting streak to 3 games. And Tim Drher pitched a fine game going 7 innings surrendering 3 earnded runs. Wood Lanes will have a week off next week and use that to ready themselves still in search for their first win of the season against the new team Bucks Ballers. |

The Rain Came But WL Gets First Victory |
There was little hope that the game would get it, but weather held up just long enough for Wood Lanes to pick up their first win of the season. The game not only marked the return of franchise home run leader Billy Heron, but it was going to be the final game for 5 year vet. Matt O' Donnell. The game started off as a great pitching duel. Through 5 and a half it was 1-1 with only 4 hits in the game. The defenses also played outstanding. But with the rain both pitchers got a lil wild and that's when Matt O'Donnell stepped up and hit a big RBI Double in the 6th which led to 6 runs in the inning. The Ballers scored 4 in the top of the 7th to cut it to 7-5. But Wood Lanes would bounce back next inning and had the bases loaded with nobody out with there 4-5-6 guys on their way up. And that's when the game was called. It was a great battle from both teams. Tim Dreher picked up his first win going the distance striking out 6 and gave up 4 ER's. Greg Kempf added 2 hits and an RBI. Billy Heron had a hit in his return. But the player of the game was Matt O'Donnell. Number 82 walked 3 times, scored 2, stole 2 bases and had an RBI double and a perfect day out in center. We will miss Matt and Jess (our team assistant and scorebook keeper) as they move to California. Matt's #82 will be retired.
Wood Lanes will have a week off and then return home the following week to play Vidros Studios |

Walks Cost Wood Lanes Chance At Win. |
For the 5th straight game WL took the first lead of the game. This time on an RBI hit by pitcher Chris McCouch. He went 3-3 with 2 SB and an RBI on the day. But in the 3rd inning he walked the bases loaded and gave up a grandslam to put Vidro Studios up 6-1. It was Chris's first start in 3 years and we were happy to get him back out there. It seemed like everything Vidro hit fell in and everything Wood Lanes hit was right at somebody. Wood Lanes left 12 guys on base in 7 innings. Way to many. Vidros won 10-3. They scored 10 runs with 10 hits and 15 walks. They left 14 men on base. So the D was good. Just timely hitting and walks led them. It was a nice day and it was fun playing those guys. They played hard and both teams fault all the way.The game was played how its supposed to be played that day by both teams. Good luck to Vidro and we'll see them soon. Wood Lanes will have to cut out the walks and pick up their hitting with .RISP if they want to fair well against the G.C. Giants this sunday in their DH. |

A Long, Hot Day Ends In A Double Header Sweep By The Giants |
It was a long day, and the team new it. The weather reached over 100 degrees on sunday. But the games must go on. In the first game, starter Joe Brannigan got into trouble in the 4th. Giants had a 7 run 4th inning with only 2 hits. Again walks and costly errors. Only 4 earned runs out of the 10. Wood Lanes scored 4 in the 5th on RBI hits by Stephen Nakovich, Greg Kempf, and Billy Heron. But it wasnt enough and lost 10-4 in the end. With no bench in the 2nd game and only having 10 guys, and missingf some key players, Wood Lanes took the field looking for the split with ACE Tim Dreher on the mound. Again errors. 7 of them for WL. Only 2 earned runs for the Giants out of their 7. Dreher went the distance and pitched well enough for a win and struck out 5. In the 5th WL's got the game within 1 at 4-3, but Giants responded and took the game 7-3. Billy Heron had a big double which just missed being a HR and greg Kempf knocked in a run with his 3rd double of the game. Wood Lanes knows that if they're going to compete they have to play together as a team. As 1 unit. And loosen up out there and have some fun and play relaxed so they can stop making those little mistakes which cost them big. With the All-Star this sunday, WL is back in action on the 22nd. |

East Holds Off West And Wins 10-4 |
The All-Star Game was held on Father's Day. Wood Lanes is in the East and their representatives were Greg Kempf, Stephen Nakovich, Tim Dreher (2) and Eddie Barger (2). Tim Dreher started the game going 3 innings and only letting in 2 earned runs. Greg Kempf started in right and Stephen Nakovich started at catch. Steve popped up his first at bat and hit a FC and knocked in a run his second AB. Greg was the lead off hitter and went 4-5 in the game, clearly being the games offensive MVP! Eddie wasn't able to make it. The game was great, the teams were great, and everyone just had a great time. Hats off to the Naturals, the Dodgers, the Phillies, and the Giants for an awsome time. And an extra thanks to Tony Di Leo and his Blackwood Bombers staff for doing a great job coaching. |

WL Lose Two Tough Ones On Sunday's DH. |
In game 1 the two teams only combinded for 10 hits. The difference was the 4 errors Wood Lanes had. Tim Dreher went the distance only giving up 2 earned runs. More then enough for the win. WL put their bats on the ball too, just couldnt find the holes. It was a real great game but the errors were too much again and they lost it 6-3. The only 4 hits were from Billy Heron, Ed Barger, Chris McCouch and Kevin Clark who also stole 2 bases, scored a run, got HBP and and knocked in a run. Jim Brannigan took the hill for his first start of the season and had a rough first inning giving up 5 runs. But after that pitched very, very well. He gave up 4 more later on but were yet again unearned on 3 Wood Lanes errors. Wood Lanes out hit the Punishers 10-7. They were down 9-4 in the 7th the bases loaded and right in the top of their lineup but the game was ended on a 3-2 called 3rd strike which was a terrible call. The umpire was just absolutly horrible all day and both teams knew it. Billy Heron, Ed Barger and Stephen Nakovich all had 2 hits each in the game. The team also showed their speed stealing 10 out of 11 bases in the games. Each week the team seems to make just one mistake to many which cost them the game. But their getting closer as a team and better as a unit. Next week WL goes up the street to take on the Giants in Glassboro. |

WL Played Them Tough, But Lose Two To Leagues Best Team |
After a week off Wood Lanes was set to face the undefeated Phillies. Again with a short bench and missing some of the teams starters. The Phil's hot swinging offense were held to 5 runs, 2 of which were unearned. WL matched the Phillies hit total with 6(including 2 by Kevin Clark) but only walked once and was 0-6 with RISP. They fell 5-0. A stellar pitching performance by Tim Dreher who pitched a complete game giving up 3 earned and only walking 2. Game two started off with a quick 2-0 lead by the Phil's. Then another 2 runs in the 4th to make it 4-0. WL keep hanging around jut couldn't score until Tim Dreher pulled a ball to right over the fence to hit his first career HR and make the game 4-1 But with another costly error the phils came back with 5 more in the game and won 9-2. Jim Brannigan went the distance in the loss and also got 2 hits. Greg Kempf also had 2 hits and an RBI in the game. Next week WL will face the Wolf Pack for the first time. |

Two Tough Games End In Series Split |
In game one, Wolf Pack jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. But in the bottom of the inning WL scored 4 and never looked back. RBI's by Barger, and Nakovich was capped off by a 2-run single by Brett Borusewicz. Nakvich had another RBI in the 3rd on a sac fly. And in the 4th Jim Brannigan knocked a run in on a single and Ed Barger added 2 more on a single. He had 3 in the game. Joe Brannigan picthed a complete game only giving up 1 earned, walked 1 and struck out 6 for his first career victory. Game 2 started off nice with a double by Nakovich and single by Greg Kempf. Billy Heron knocked in a run and they were off to a 2-0 lead in the first. The Pack got an unearned run back in the 1st and also scored in the 4th to tie. Again errors hurt in the 5th as they scored their 4th unearned run of the day to take the lead 3-2. WL had their chances in the last inning just down 1, they loaded the bases with nobody out. But then they struck out twice and grouned out to end the game. Greg Kempf and Billy Heron had a multi hit game. Tim Dreher game up 1 earned in 6 innings walked 3 and struck out 7. Next week WL plays the Dodgers at home. |

Well Played Game Ends In A 3-0 Loss |
The Dodgers jumped on top with a big 2 out hit in the first to go up 2-0 and that's all they would need. They picked up and unearned run in the 7th and went on to win 3-0. Both teams pitched great and played great defense. They combined for only 9 hits and 1 error. Tim Dreher went the distance and only threw 83 pitches and walked 1 and struck out 6. The second game was rained out. |

Great Defense And Timely Hitting Earns WL 3rd Win Of The Year |
Joe Brannigan got the nod and pitched very well. He went 6 innings giving up 1 earned and struck out 6 to get his second win of the season. Tim Dreher notched WL's first ever save with his scoreless 3 innings in relief. After being down 2-1 the offense came back with 3 big runs to win 4-2. Jim Brannigan helped out his brother with 2 hits. Billy Heron knocked in 3 runs on the day. And Stephen Nakovich went 3-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. It was a great game and Wood Lanes are starting to play better fundamental ball. |

In First Ever Night Game, Wood Lanes Go Down 5-2 |
First night game ever for the team was a rain make up. It was a quick game. The team got there 6:50 and game started at 7. They scored the first run on a Billy Heron RBI. Dodgers got 4 back and was up 4-1. After a Tim Dreher 2B, Will Berger, who had 2 hits on the day, knocked in his first run of the year. But the Dodgers scored again and won 5-2. Greg Kempf also had a hit in his return to the lineup. Dreher pitched a complete game K'ing 5 and walking 0. WL had a short roster with only 9 guys. They kept it tight and have been playign very well lately. This week they return home to play the Camden Punishers. |
