Adult baseball returns to Tampa Bay |
Welcome to the NABA of Tampa Bay website!
After many years of wondering and waiting for someone to form an adult baseball league in Tampa, here it is! I finally, after following my wife's advice, found something I love to do and did it. I love baseball, and something tells me that you are on this site because you do too! Our baseball lives do not need to be over because we are not on scholorship or being paid to do so. We should not have to settle for beer league softball! NABA of Tampa Bay is only months away, I am hoping to have opening day sometime in June so don't delay and submit your information ASAP! Manager's Meeting May 12th!! |
We are making great progress!! We have secured Fields in Lakeland thanks to Rodney Thompson and Umpires are waiting for me to notify them on an Opening Day date. I have a player pool large enough for three teams so far and much more on the way. If you have not submitted your information yet then what are you waiting for, we are only a month or so away from the inaugural season of the Tampa Bay NABA! I still need more managers and I am working on some nice fields in Tampa as well to play on. I am planning on a MANAGER"S MEETING ON MAY 12TH!!!! Monday May 19th we will be having our manager's meeting, I will update the website when we have decided on the place...if you are interested in managing a team please email me lcajoe24@verizon.net and I will fill you in on the details. we have added a new team to the league and more players are signing up each day. The player draft will be June 8th as of right now and I am hoping opening day will be the following Sunday!! Keep an eye out and I will be notifying everyone who has contacted me so far. Okay guys we are weeks away!! Manager's meeting will be 5\19 7pm @ Tampa Ale House on N Dale Mabry Hwy!! if you are a manager or interested in managing a team please let me know if you are and confirm that you will be attending.. lcajoe24@verizon.net
Players!! The Player draft is going to be June 1st 9 am at Northside Tampa LL Field (Address and directions are on "fields" link) If you want to play and are not on a team already then you must show up to the draft to be placed on a team! Bring all your gear as you will be trying out in front of the managers to be drafted on their team as well as $20 for your league registration (if you do not pay then you do not participate and will not be placed on a team!) After being drafted on a team (everyone gets drafted) your manager will let you know how much costs will be (uniforms, team fee etc. depending on team sponsorship) we will also cover some of this before the draft begins, any questions lcajoe24@verizon.net please let me know by email that you are attending so I can get an accurate head count as many new registrants will be showing up and this will speed up registration..
OPENING DAY for the Tampa Bay NABA will be June 14th!!!!
Thanks to Northside LL and their board memebers we have a beautiful field to play on!! (Most games will be played here for the Summer season as it will be a 13 week season, 20 games, and playoffs) and we will have 2 other locations for the Fall and Spring Leagues since I'm sure we will have added many teams to the league by then. lcajoe24@verizon.net if you have any questions or want to register!!! Player Tryout\ Draft This Sunday!!! |
This Sunday..June 1st 9am at Northside Tampa LL Field in North Tampa is our player tryout\draft.. if you are wanting to play this summer you must be at the draft (unless you are already on a team of course). Please be there early to stretch as we will have many people trying out and it will be a long day in the sun! You must bring $20 to register or you will NOT be allowed to tryout!!!

We had our player draft this past Sunday and with a great turnout it was a large success. Unfortunately we had more players than teams but if anyone is still looking to start a team I have just enough guys to fill half of your roster. Email me lcajoe24@verizon.net. We did however fill our last two teams and are ready for opening day which is June 22nd!!
I will email and call all managers for our final manager's meeting in which team fees and rosters will be due.

Opening Day is upon us. Sunday June 22nd is Opening Day of our summer 2008 season. The schedules and teams are set, (I may still need a few players for one team, email me lcajoe24@verizon.net ) We will have a short summer season in preparation for the Fall Tampa season which will start in late Sept.. if you are interested in starting a team or playing email me at the address above! A huge thanks to Jim Thompson from Northside Tampa Little League for allowing us to use his fields.

1st Week Rained out..make ups to come.. |
Well, after waiting,peparing and just being pumped about opening day, the baseball Gods will make us wait one more week. Both games were rained out due to the amount of rain we got over a period of two days and will be made up when the two teams matched are scheduled to play again...
Note: ALL GAMES NEXT WEEK WILL BE AT WELLSWOOD FIELD, NORTHSIDE IS HAVING AN ALL-STAR TOURNAMENT SO PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU SHOW UP AT THE RIGHT FIELD!

Opening Day Packed with Action! |
Opening Day was completed with some exciting results. In Game 1 with the Mets and Rays, the Mets took control of 1st place with a win of 7-5. Each team had some great pitching, and some great plays on the base path, including a leap over the third baseman, and some great plays at the plate. In the end the Mets held their lead in the 9th inning with bases loaded and pulled out the victory.
Game 2 between the Blazers and the Bullets ended up being a tie after the 3 hour time limit expired. (we had some trouble with the lights too but I was assured they are fixed for week 3), but at 10-10 obviously there was some action at the plate. (I will have names and such for next week sorry)The hitting was started off by the Bullet's catcher crushing the 1st of 2 homeruns that would have been out of any ballpark with any type of bat. The Blazers hit 2 of their own to match but seperated between two players, and even though 10 runs were scored on each team the pitching was impressive.

Not again...but we did get one game in... |
Well, the morning game was really close and exciting until the bats and sky opened up. Through 5 innings a pitchers duel was established and it was a 1 run game, with a great double play made in the bottom of the 5th to stop the Rays rally, the Blazers came back in the top of the 6th with 4 Homeruns to take a commanding lead. The sky opened up in the bottom of the 6th to end the game and rain out the two evening games at Northside.
Sorry for the rainouts guys but this is the summer, the Fall and Spring leagues will obviously not be as prone to rainouts and we will make these games up either way..I used to cry as a kid when my games got rained out so you can imagine how much I hate being the one to have to call them..

Great weekend of Baseball and more to come... |
Well, depending on what team you ask we had a great weekend of baseball completing two sets of double headers to make up some rainouts that we have had.
Games 1 and 2 of the Rays and Bullets were taken by the Bullets showing just how tough they are going to be this season with some great hitting and pitching. We all found out just how hot Florida can be in the summer time, but I can assure you since I was behind the plate for two games that the pain and soreness is all worth it because we are playing baseball baby!
Games 1 and 2 of the Mets and Blazers were both taken by the Blazers making them the top team in the league at the moment until we get caught up on saturday with the bullets and Mets.
All I can say is that it feels great being out there playing ball and talking junk with you guys. I see everyone enjoying themselves and that's what matters to me. The playoffs are going to be a ton of fun since all of us will have some games and experience under our belts and I look forward to see how it pan out.

Summer is raining itself away and the Fall season is approaching |
Well, again because it is Florida and Summer it rains, the double header was cancelled on Sunday for the Blazers and the Rays which was looking like a real promising game coming off the Rays first win of the season but looks like we'll have to wait for the match up later.
We did get in both games at the Northside field between the Mets and Bullets but the Bullets took both games with an outstanding hitting performance and are showing that each week they get tougher and tougher.
As our first season comes near the end, our Fall season of the Tampa NABA is right around the corner, I am still taking names for the draft which will take place mid to late Sept. and am also looking for managers for at least two teams as I have enough players in the pool for as many teams to coach! With the regular season coming to a close... |
Well, one more week to go in the regular season. This up coming sunday will be instrumental in determining the standings for the first round of the playoffs which will be a best of 3 series to find out who will be moving on to the championship game!
We have had a great 1st season and even though the summer rains made scheduling a lot of fun we still have had some awesome ball games. There is a lot of talent out there and I would put my best team against any city's best team in the country and feel confident that we would win!
Again the Fall season is approaching, and the player tryout\draft will be in mid September so if you have not emailed me to add yourself to the draft list then let me know as soon as possible.. lcajoe24@verizon.net I need coaches as well please let me know if you are interested.

Blazers take 1st place in the regular season... |
Congrats to the Tampa Blazers for taking first place in the regular season and the top seed coming into the playoffs!
Game 1 of the playoffs between the Bullets and Rays was a close one going into the 7th inning with some great pitching and defense by both teams, but in the end the Bullets and their deep pitching staff held the Rays to 1 run and took game 1 of the series 8-1.
Game 2 Between the Blazers and Mets was rained out by the lingering weather from Tropical Storm Fay and will be made up next Sunday at the Wellswood Field..
The Fall season will begin the last week in Sept and and the draft will be in mid Sept, so if I have your info already keep an eye in your junk mail and inboxes from me for the dates... or email me if you have not yet joeyv@toyotaoftampabay.com .. I still need another coach or two, establish your own playing time and pick your own team, doesn't get any more fun than that.

The Blazers and Bullets Play for it all this weekend! |
After a very hot and wet Summer season the Tampa Blazers and Bullets will play this Sunday 9am at Northside Field for the championship of the very first season of the Tampa NABA!
Both teams throughout the season exemplified the meaning of pitching and power and will play their final matchup of the season for the championship trophy. If you were part of the league this season or even if you are thinking about playing, come our this Sunday to watch 2 very good teams play and see what the Tampa NABA is all about. Good luck to both teams and see you there.

Tampa Blazers win the Summer 2008 Tampa NABA Championships! |
Congratulations to the Tampa Blazers for winning our inaugural summer season with a 10-1 win over the Tampa Bullets.
The Blazers Pitching staff shut down an expolsive offense in the Bullets and showed how well their bats worked as well giving up 1 run in the 1st inning and scoring 10 total runs throughout the game. These two teams will be constantly battling as the seasons continue and I look forward to seeing more.
I want to thank EVERYONE who participated this season and for all the help in making this summer one of the best I've ever had and I am so much looking forward to doing more and more. Special thanks to Jim, Bubba and Amanda Thompson for the help with Northside Little League and for letting us use their Field!! Another to Doug Wycoff for supplying our Umpires who did a great job and for umping our Championship as well.
Fall tryouts/draft is THIS SUNDAY!! 9\14 at Northside Field 9am!! (please get there early to warm up). Directions are on this site and I will be more than happy to help if need be by emailing me below. If you have not signed up....TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!!!!
