IRON-MAN DORNICK PITCHES BREWERS TO CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

ROB DORNICK DEFIES LOGIC BY PITCHING BOTH ENDS OF A DOUBLE HEADER.  CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES STARTS NEXT WEEKEND.

The Morris Brewers reached the Raritan Valley NABA Championships for the first time in team history today on the back of starting picther Rob Dornick. With the Brewers facing elimination in both games Dornick threw two 9-inning complete games.

The Brewers got off to a horrible start on Saturday dropping the game by the score of 13-8.  Pitbulls starter Blashfield threw a solid game and the Brewers never recovered from a shaky start from David Lovejoy. Reliever Mike Aversa performed admirably in relief as he further tore his shoulder into oblivion. SS Justin Irvin, 2B Larry Goldberg and LF Tony Padin each had three hits to power the offense, but the team effort from the Brewers was uninspiring and didn't leave many thinking the Brew-Crew could pull off a series win.

Saturday nights storm didn't bode well for the field to even be playable, but the only storm the Pitbulls had to be concerned with was Tropical Storm Dornick. Rob Dornick got the start and was quickly victimized by errors from "left fielder" Brian Maslowski and 3B Mike Gomez.  The mistakes put the Brewers in an early 4-0 hole, but Dornick wouldn't allow another run in this first game as he mowed down five Pitbulls and allowed just three hits after the first inning. The Brewers clawed back runs in the second and third as Brian Maslowski scored a run on a David Vega single and Larry Goldberg scored on a Justin Irvin single. Vega would have two hits in game one, Goldberg would have a perfect 4-4 game and Irvin continued his torrid late season hitting with a 2-4 game.

The game saw no runs cross the plate in innings 4-5-6, but the Brewers came from behind and took the eventual lead in the seventh inning.  Tony Padin and Dave Lovejoy singled to start the inning and a Nolan Ticer walk loaded the bases for Larry Goldberg. Goldberg continued his amazing hitting this year with a two RBI single to tie the game. Following a walk and two strikeouts the Brewers saw the most important at bat of the season appoach. Mike Gomez stepped to the plate and delivered a clutch 2 RBI single to give the Brewers a lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

In game two Brewers management decided to milk Dornick for all he was worth - and he was worth quite a bit on this day. In the second end of what has to be one of the most impressive performances in league history Dornick threw another gem allowing six hits and no earned runs. Dornick continued to be mentally tough through Brewers fielding mistakes and picked up his entire team.

The Brew started this game off quickly with a run in the first. David Vega singled, stole second and scored on a Nolan Ticer bases loaded walk. The Brewers tacked on runs in the third and fourth when Justin Irvin doubled and scored on a wild pitch and in the fourth "Old Man" Goldberg knocked in Tony "Iraqi Killer" Padin. The Pitbulls showed some tenacity by getting a run back in the bottom of the third, fifth and two more in the sixth.

As the Brewers faced elimination and a 4-3 defecit they decided to step up again and put the game away. Inning six saw hits by Irvin, Borsuk, Ticer, Dornick and clutch hitting Mike Gomez all add up to three runs. Two more runs in the eigth inning added to the lead and another three in the ninth sealed the deal.

Not much more you can say about the guts and determination of this team. We all picked each other up  when we needed it and have show the league we're a force to be feared. Two more wins and we're champions!
