My name is Shawn Edwards and I am the League President for Midlands baseball.  I had a vision of reliving my youth and finding a league to play baseball that didn't interfere with my coaching my son's team.  I couldn't even find a league.  So I googled adult baseball and came across The NABA(National Adult Baseball Association).  Yet still, we didn't have a league out here.  So, I made the ultimate decision to start one....and here it is.

          I just want to let all potential players, coaches and hopefully in the future, commisioners know that I am here for you.  I want this to bas as fun and as exciting as it was when we were younger playing baseball.  I am an avid fan of the game and have good working knowledge on how to run a team and an organization. 

          I believe that we can make this a success in our inaugural season and grow to have many tournaments and send some of our own teams to national tournaments.  This league will work with communication and also input from all aspects of the league-from players and coaches, right up to the fans that watch.

           I will always be readily available to speak with anyone in the league and I can be reached one of two ways.  By email, at shawn.edwards@twcable.com or by calling me at 803-708-2597.  Someone in my house should answer the phone if I don't, but if it isn't me, please leave them your name, call back number and a brief description on what you wanted to talk about and I will return your call that day.  If you happen to get the voice mail, do the same as if you were talking to a live person and I will also return your call that day.

            Over the next week or so, I will be looking for fields for us to play at and getting that process started as well as putting up posters around the area.  If you have any suggestions for fields, please don't hesitate to call me.  I want to try to make your commute to games as minimal as possible as I know most, if not all, of you have families that you want to spend time with as well.

WE ARE ALMOST THERE!!!!!!!

       I have been getting a great response to some of the flyers and ads that I have sprinkled around.  I still need to get some more flyers and posters out there and I am still negotiating some fields.  I want to thank the soon-to-be player-members that I have already spoken with.  I have had great conversations with some of you and can hear the intensity in your voices.  I look forward to this coming season and I will make it the biggest and the best season of baseball ever.  Watch out Manny Lopez, here comes the NABA!!!  We will be having a player meeting in about two to three weeks, so keep checking your emails and watching this site for more updates. 

       Also, I have finally chosen our league logo and I hope you guys will enjoy it.

WE GOT IT!!!!!!!!!

I have managed to find 2 fields within close proximity to each of you.  I will be going to view the fields on Wednesday, June, 25, 2008 to see if this fits our needs.  We are oh so close to getting this season started off right.  The inaugural game will be one for the ages.  If anyone has any ideas for making the first game a big hit, please email me at SEleaguepresident@sc.rr.com.  All suggestions will be kept and we can vote on it at the inforational meeting.

TEAM NAMES!!!!!!!

I have picked 10 team names for ten teams.  I get phone calls and emails everyday now, so more team names will be added as we move forward.  I hope you guys are just as excited as I am.  This is going to be one heck of a season.  Please keep sending me your ideas and feedback...after all, this is your league and you won't come back again and again if you are not comfortable.  Also, the news changes pretty regularly, but you can see other news updates previously entered by clicking news above.  There you can scroll through and see other news stories.  Last, but not least, if you have news that you would like to share; i.e a birth, wedding, engagement or anything you can think of, let me know.  We are family now and all your accomplishments should be shared by all.

 

IT IS MEETING TIME!!!!!!!!

Ok everyone, it is what we have been waiting for.....It is time for the informational meeting.  It will be held on July 18th, at 7pm sharp.  The location is yet to be determined, but please clear your calender for this meeting.  It should be no longer than an hour, but this will be the meeting where I go into details about the league, the games, uniforms and team fees as well as where we will be playing, etc.  Please make it a priority to show up as this is a very important meeting....YOU GET TO MEET ME:)  Looking forward to seeing you guys out there.

The month, day and time is here for our first annual informational meeting.  The meeting will be held at Murray's Restaurant in Cayce, SC.  Murray's has graciously offered us a room to use for this meeting.  And we thank Murray's for their hospitality.  If you cannot make it, please let me know so I can set up another meeting with you.  I really want to meet all the players and look each of you in your faces to let you know that I am here for you and to let you know that I want to make this league a memorable experience for everyone.

 

Murray's is a restaurant, so don't think this is a formal thing.  Please bring some cash to order food and drinks.  This is just a way to get to know each other.  So, let us go out there and have some fun.

On Saturday, July 26th, we will be having tryouts at Howard Park in West Columbia.  Please arrive no later than 10:30 as you have to be assigned numbers and get registered.  Afterwards, we will be conducting the draft to determine your teams and handing out team packets.  The whole process will take about 2 hours.  Please dress comfortably.

 

Howard Park is behind Northside Middle School off of Hwy 378.  I

f you are coming from Columbia, take Gervais street across bridge and make right at the first light.  That is Sunset Blvd/Hwy 378.  Take about five miles and you will see a Bank of America on your left and a Palmetto Citizens Credit Union on your right.  Make the right at that light and take all the way around to the back.

Coming from Lexington, take 378 to Bank of America on your right and Palmetto Citizens on your left.  Make a left at that light and take all the way around to the back.
