Bombers take another one from a spirited Cachorros team.
|
| With the season coming down to the wire and every game taking on increasing importance, the Bombers continued their march toward securing first place and going into the playoffs as the #1 seed. This week the opponent was the Cachorros, and while the final score wound up 17-9, the game seemed closer than the score. The Cachorros kept it close until the final two innings when the Bombers tacked 6 runs on the board.
Zach Flores started the game but was not as affective as the Bombers have come to rely on, but he got the big outs when the Bombers needed them and that’s what counted most. Zach also contributed at the plate scoring 3 runs and hitting a booming home run in the 4th inning that landed on the northbound lane beyond left field. Chris Mendenhall made his debut on the mound and looked quite impressive. Chris went 2 innings and did not allow any runs. He surrendered one hit and one walk and recorded two strikeouts.
The offensive star of the game was David Eck who went 4 for 5 with 4 RBI’s, 3 runs scored, and 3 stolen bases. Eck was nominated for SOCO NABA player of the week by the team’s manager.
Moving forward, the Bombers look to win this week against the Sox at South High School in Pueblo. A victory will clinch first place and allow the Bombers to prepare for the playoffs with the #1 seed guaranteed. The Bombers will also be assured of 5 All Star picks, so this weeks game is another important game.
